The Music of Tony Joe White

One of the most popular and prolific of Cajun blues singers, Tony Joe White and his family often visited my wife, Penny, when she was a holistic chiropractor in Franklin, TN. when he wasn't on the road. We were honored to be invited as his guests to a local Nashville show.

Born in Louisiana July 23, 1943, Tony Joe is probably known as the originator of "Swamp Rock". His songs have been recorded by more than 25 recording companies.

Best known for his hit "Polk Salad Annie" and "Rainy Night in Georgia" first made a hit by Brook Benton, he also penned "Steamy Windows" which Tina Turner had as a hit in 1989.

His later work has taken a more political/environmental turn, as with the first video above, "Closer to the Truth." There's much, much more to Tony Joe White than "Polk Salad Annie"! His newest album, Deep Cuts, was released in June 2008 to rave reviews.
