The Plant Studios

So many monumental albums were conceived and birthed at the Plant in Sausalito CA -- Fleetwood Mac's Rumours and Stevie Wonder's Songs In The Key Of Life, just to name a few. These days, the Plant is changing its tune by working with more independent artists, and by building a non-profit music education program. (Music in this piece by the Monophonics.)

THE MUSIK-ZONE
An Introduction

This site is for musicians, songwriters, independent publishers and their web designers - and here you will learn the latest technologies and techniques for creating such things as music videos, how to put them on the Internet (YouTube, MySpace, etc.), where to publish your songs - and how to put all this on your own website and save thousands of $$$ doing it!

There are very few sites where songwriters, performers and publishers can go to find specific ways to produce better songs, create better recordings and learn the best techniques to get their music and songs on the Internet before a greater audience of listeners and fans, and succeed in the NEW music business.

The NEW music business is far different from the old approach of trying to get signed to a major record label, going on the road, and selling physical albums and CDs. The traditional music business is slowly dying and major recording stars are leaving the major labels in droves to set up their own publishing companies, strike better deals with outlets such as Wal-Mart (The Eagles) and establish a greater presence on YouTube, MySpace, Facebook and other "social networking sites."

Even several independent publishers and record labels have reported that  it works better for them. Surprisingly, by giving away more music, they find their artists are also selling more music. If a fan downloads a song or album and likes it, he or she is more likely to shell out money to buy more of a group's albums.

While this site contains lots of advice on how to get signed to a major label, it's primary focus is on how to succeed in the NEW, Internet-based music business.

I'm in the process of listing several musician-specific sites where you can post your music to attract more listeners, fans and buyers. I'm also reviewing these sites after using them myself to see if they're as good as they claim.

I intend on looking at several programs I already have for making music and putting it on the web - same goes for making videos and putting them on the web.
